Benefits verification, off your team's plate.
Benji checks patient insurance eligibility before every appointment — instantly when it can, with a real phone call to the carrier when it has to. Your team only steps in for the cases that actually need a human.
How it works
Every verification takes the fastest path that actually works.
Instant check, no call needed
Benji first checks eligibility electronically through our insurance data partner. If that comes back complete — active coverage, remaining deductible, annual maximum, coverage percentages — you're done. No hold music, no waiting.
Real phone call when it's needed
If the instant check can't answer everything, Benji calls the carrier itself, using an AI voice agent that identifies itself as such, navigates the phone menu, and works through the same checklist a trained staff member would ask.
Flagged for your team when it can't
If a rep needs a signed fax or insists on speaking with someone from your office, Benji doesn't guess or force an answer — it stops, records exactly what's missing, and marks the case for manual follow-up.
Why offices use Benji
Lives in your workflow
Reads upcoming appointments straight from your practice management system and writes verified results back the same way — not a spreadsheet your team has to babysit.
Runs ahead of every visit
Verifications run automatically for the week's upcoming appointments, so the answer is ready before the patient walks in.
One clear status per patient
Pending, resolved automatically, in progress, completed, or needs manual follow-up — always visible, always current.
Every call is recorded and ready to review
When Benji has to call, the full recording is saved and playable right from the verification — so your team can hear exactly what the rep said, not just read a summary of it.
Never pretends to be certain
If Benji can't confirm something with a real source, it says so instead of showing a guess as fact.
Confirms who the policyholder actually is
Benji doesn't just trust what's on file — it asks the carrier directly whether the patient is the policyholder or a dependent, and flags it the moment that answer doesn't match your records.
Flags missing attachments before you submit
If your office has learned that a carrier needs an X-ray, models, or perio charting for a code, Create Claim warns you before you send it — never after a rejection.
Prepares claims inside Open Dental
Creates the claim and marks it sent directly in your practice management system — confirmed against a live Open Dental integration, not just in theory.
Posts payments to Open Dental for you
When an insurance payment comes in, Benji shows exactly what to post per procedure — your team confirms the numbers, then it's written straight into Open Dental. No re-typing an EOB line by line.
Reads the electronic remittance automatically
When a payer sends a real ERA, Benji reads it and matches the payment to the claim on its own. A clean, fully-paid claim gets marked ready to post automatically — anything with a denial or adjustment still goes to your team, never guessed at.
Follows up on claims that go quiet
If a claim doesn't get a clean electronic response, Benji can call the payer to check its status — the same disclosed AI-call approach already used for eligibility.
Two-factor login and a full activity trail
Every account requires two-factor authentication, and every view or action on patient data is logged — built for offices that take patient data seriously, not bolted on after the fact.
Writes the real benefit detail back to Open Dental
Deductible, annual maximum, coverage percentage by category, frequency limits, and waiting periods — written straight into Open Dental's own benefit records, not a separate list your team has to reconcile.
Saves a summary PDF when it makes a call
When a verification needed a live phone call, Benji saves a one-page summary directly into Imaging under Insurance — the detail behind the numbers, right where the chart already keeps documents.
After the appointment
The claim doesn't just get sent — it gets followed up on.
Security & trust
Built for offices that handle real patient data — status shown plainly, not implied.
Two-factor authentication
Required on every account, no exceptions.
Full audit trail
Every view or action on patient data is logged, per user.
Calls recorded & reviewable
Every carrier call is disclosed and recorded — your team can listen back, not just read a summary.
BAAs with our infrastructure providers
Signed with our eligibility-check provider. Still in progress with our voice, hosting, and database providers — no real patient data runs through Benji until all of them are signed.
What Benji doesn't do
We'd rather tell you upfront than have you find out later.
- It doesn't replace your front desk. It clears the routine calls so your team's time goes to the cases that need judgment.
- It doesn't hide that it's AI. Every call opens with Benji identifying itself and disclosing that the call may be recorded.
- English-language calls only, for now. That's the current scope of the calling agent.
- It doesn't guarantee electronic delivery to the payer. It creates the claim and marks it sent in Open Dental — whether that alone reaches the payer, or still depends on your office's eClaims setup, isn't something we'll claim is solved until it's confirmed with a live account.
- Its attachment reminders are only as good as what you've taught it. There's no industry-wide list of which carrier wants what — it only warns about rules your own office has entered and confirmed.
- A scanned or faxed EOB still needs a human to read it. Benji reads the electronic remittance (ERA) automatically when the payer sends one — but if a payer only sends a scanned or faxed EOB, that's an image, not data, and someone on your team still has to read it and enter what it says.
- What gets written back is grouped, not line-by-line. Coverage percentage, frequency, and waiting periods follow Open Dental's own broad categories — not a separate entry for every CDT code — and waiting periods today only cover basic, major, and periodontal.
